Our Bilingual Montessori School

"The child is not a vase that we fill, but a spring that we let flow."

Dr. Maria Montessori

At Montessori Small World, we provide more than just a school—we create a nurturing and inspiring learning environment where children aged 2 to 6 years old thrive in a bilingual, caring, and stimulating setting.

Rooted in authentic Montessori principles, our school offers a thoughtfully designed educational program, tailored to support children through their "sensitive periods"—the crucial phases of early development. Within a carefully prepared environment, each child is encouraged to grow at their own pace, develop independence, and unlock their full potential.

"One way to measure the relevance of an educational model is a child's level of happiness."

Authentic Montessori Educational Method

IMG-1348.jpg

Created by Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952) in Italy, the Montessori method is a scientific and nurturing approach to child development. It is based on two key discoveries: "sensitive periods", critical phases for learning, and the child's "absorbent mind", which enables effortless learning—just as naturally as walking or speaking. Today, research in neuroscience confirms the intellectual and social benefits of this approach.

At Montessori Small World, we implement the Montessori method in its full depth and authenticity. Our educators, certified by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), guide each child with care and expertise, fostering their well-being, independence, and natural development.

Learning in a calm and structured environment

  • Freedom of movement and independent activity choices encourage joy and a love for learning.

  • A continuous 2.5 to 3-hour work cycle allows children to concentrate deeply.

  • No grading or reward system: children learn for themselves, driven by their natural curiosity.

  • Mixed-age groups promote collaboration, self-confidence, and peer learning.

An environment designed to inspire discovery

Our school is thoughtfully arranged to provide a stimulating and harmonious setting. The Montessori materials, crafted by Nienhuis (an AMI-accredited manufacturer), are complemented by additional activities tailored to the children's interests and developmental needs.

The classroom is organized into four distinct learning areas, each fostering different skills:

Practical Life Area
➡️ Activities for daily living: self-care, environmental care, and independence.
➡️ Learning social etiquette through "grace and courtesy" lessons.
➡️ Developing concentration, coordination, and responsibility.

Sensorial Area
➡️ Exploring the world through the senses.
➡️ Discovering colors, textures, dimensions, sounds, and shapes.
➡️ Introduction to arts, music, botany, zoology, and science.

Mathematics Area
➡️ Hands-on learning of mathematical concepts through manipulation.
➡️ A sensory-based approach for a smooth transition to abstract thinking.
➡️ A playful and natural way to grasp numbers and spatial awareness.

Language Area
➡️ Development of oral expression, writing, and reading.
➡️ Encouragement of self-confidence and the joy of communication.
➡️ A sensory-based learning method that integrates with all other subjects.

🌿 Thanks to this respectful and stimulating approach, every child develops curiosity, confidence, and enthusiasm, ready to explore the world around them.

Bilingualism

A Natural Bilingual Experience from Age 2! 🇬🇧🇫🇷

At Montessori Small World, children naturally learn both English and French through daily immersion in a bilingual environment. Each class is guided by one French-speaking educator and one English-speaking educator, allowing children to absorb both languages with authentic pronunciation and fluency.

A Progressive and Spontaneous Learning Experience

✔️ Through immersion – English and French are part of daily life, creating a natural and engaging bilingual environment. 🗣️✨
✔️ At their own pace – Each child progresses according to their level, with activities tailored to gently strengthen language skills. 📚🎯
✔️ With English Time – A daily interactive Exploring English session encourages children to express themselves in English in a fun and engaging way! 🎶🖍️

🌿 From the age of 2, our students discover, experiment with, and embrace English with confidence and joy. By the time they leave our school, they have an excellent level of English and real ease in speaking! 🌍💬

A Window to the World

IMG-6792.jpg

At Montessori Small World, we celebrate cultural diversity and open-mindedness from an early age. Each year, our school welcomes a wonderful mix of at least fifteen different nationalities, among both our educators and students. This diversity is a true asset, offering children a natural immersion in a multicultural environment.

A Journey Around the World in the Classroom

Every two weeks, we spotlight a different country in our "It’s a Small World!" workshop. Through fun and interactive activities, children explore its language, landmarks, arts, music, dance, cuisine, traditional clothing, history, and customs.

Active Involvement of Families

We encourage parents from diverse backgrounds to share their traditions and culture with the children during these workshops. It is a wonderful opportunity to pass on their heritage, while helping our students develop a broader understanding of the world.

Unique Learning Materials to Spark Curiosity

As soon as you step into the classroom, the richness of our educational materials is striking: our geography area includes all the flags of the world, a rare feature in schools!

🌿 Montessori Small World truly lives up to its name—a little world where every child embarks on a journey of discovery with wonder and excitement.

Love of Books

IMG-6676.jpg

From an early age, books open doors to imagination, discovery, and emotion. At Montessori Small World, we nurture a natural and joyful relationship with reading, allowing each child to become a reader for pleasure while developing their intellectual and emotional abilities.

Stories: A Cherished Ritual

Each week, our educators create special storytelling moments, where children discover carefully selected books. We choose stories that are simple, positive, and grounded in reality, helping children find balance between imagination and the real world.

Reading is always a free and respectful moment—children may choose to listen to the story or continue their independent work. However, more often than not, they are drawn in by the magic of words, enhancing their concentration, vocabulary, and oral comprehension.

A Library Within Reach

Our reading corners are designed for children to explore books at their own pace—to touch, flip through, and experience the joy of turning pages. A freely accessible library allows them to observe, understand the flow of reading (from left to right), and become familiar with words.

The Joy of Sharing Books

At Montessori Small World, reading is also about sharing: older children enjoy reading to younger ones, building their confidence and pride as they pass on what they have learned. What a joy for them to demonstrate their growing knowledge over time!

🌿 Because every book is a doorway to the world, we cultivate the joy of reading every day!

Artistic Expression

Creativity: A Daily Source of Fulfillment 🎨✨

At Montessori Small World, creativity is a means of expression, discovery, and personal growth. It is encouraged every day because art is an integral part of our educational approach. More than just a skill, it is a sensory experience, allowing children to explore, imagine, and express themselves in ways beyond words.

The Benefits of Creativity from an Early Age
Art plays a key role in a child’s overall development:
✔️ It enhances concentration and helps with organization.
✔️ It strengthens fine motor skills, essential for writing.
✔️ It stimulates imagination and builds self-confidence.
✔️ It supports emotional regulation and self-expression.
✔️ It encourages communication and social interaction.

Open Access to Artistic and Expressive Activities
At Montessori Small World, art materials are available at all times, allowing children to create freely and at their own pace.

🎨 Easel Painting
A dedicated space for free expression through color and movement. After painting, children learn to care for their materials, fostering independence and responsibility.

🖌️ The Art Table
A seasonal, evolving activity that introduces different techniques such as collage, stenciling, stamping, and modeling. After an initial presentation, children are free to repeat the activity as often as they wish, just like classroom work.

🎶 Musical Bells
A unique concept developed by Maria Montessori, the bell cabinet is a true musical instrument with a pure sound. This sensory approach refines auditory skills and can even lead to music reading and writing.

💃 Dance and Theatrical Expression
Based on the needs of the group, our educators organize movement and theater sessions, helping children explore emotions, movement, and space through creative expression.

Creativity in Every Detail of Daily Life
Creativity is not just about art—it is present in every aspect of life:
🌿 Taking pride in setting a beautifully arranged table for meals.
🛏️ Creating a cozy nap corner for younger children.
🎼 Singing a lullaby together before resting.
👗 Choosing harmonious colors for an outfit.

Maria Montessori understood that creativity is not limited to artistic expression—it is also about how a child perceives and interacts with the world. Mathematics becomes balance and proportion, and language transforms into play and poetry.

🌿 Every child plants seeds of creativity within, which will flourish throughout their life.

Living Together

IMG-2913.jpg

In a Montessori classroom, individual learning is prioritized until the age of 6, as it nurtures concentration and autonomy—key needs at this stage of development. However, community life is just as essential to the harmony of the class and is a central focus for our educators.

Growing Together in a Nurturing Environment
✔️ Natural interactions between children are encouraged—watching a peer at work sparks curiosity and motivation.
✔️ From the moment they join the Children’s House, children learn the value of positive social interaction and cooperation.
✔️ Each child discovers how to find their place, contribute to group life, and thrive in a peaceful and respectful environment.

🌿 In this calm and caring micro-society, children grow by developing respect, cooperation, and self-confidence—preparing them to take their place in the world one day. 🌍✨

Respect for Nature

IMG-3402.jpg

"How beautiful, rich, and diverse nature is!"

At this young age, wonder is the key to fostering a deep respect for nature. By observing, touching, and exploring the natural world, children learn to love it. As they grow, this connection will inspire them to care for and protect our planet’s richness and diversity.

This is why botany and zoology play a vital role at Montessori Small World.

Learning by Caring for Living Things
Every day, children develop simple yet essential habits that teach them to respect and nurture their environment:
✔️ Caring for plants and observing their growth.
✔️ Changing the water for flowers, noticing their transformation.
✔️ Sorting and preparing fresh fruit snacks with care.
✔️ Pouring water with precision, building both autonomy and responsibility.

🌿 Through these small daily actions, children develop a natural connection to the world around them and take their first steps toward becoming responsible stewards of the planet.

Lunch, Nap, and Outdoor Time

At Montessori Small World, meals, rest, and outdoor time are essential moments of growth and well-being, experienced in a warm and family-like atmosphere.

A Joyful and Shared Mealtime
✔️ Every morning, children bake organic bread, which they share at lunch.
✔️ Fresh fruits are available for their afternoon snack.
✔️ Meals are provided by a school caterer, offering balanced menus, mostly organic or sourced from sustainable farming.

Learning Through Everyday Activities
Lunchtime is also an opportunity for autonomy and practical life skills, as children take part in daily tasks:
🥄 Setting the table and serving food.
🍽️ Pouring, cutting, clearing the table, and cleaning up after meals.
🦷 Brushing their teeth before resuming activities.

Outdoor Time: Fresh Air, Movement, and Exploration!
After lunch, children enjoy outdoor playtime, a wonderful opportunity to move, breathe, and explore. This time allows them to:
🌱 Discover nature and observe their surroundings.
🏃‍♂️ Run, climb, jump, and develop gross motor skills.
🤝 Learn how to interact respectfully in an outdoor space.
🌞 Recharge their energy in the fresh air before the rest of the day.

A Restful Nap, Respecting Each Child’s Rhythm
Following this active time, children who need rest take a nap in a calm and soothing space. Each child wakes at their own pace before joining the classroom for an afternoon of exploration and learning.

🌿 A perfect balance of independence, discovery, and well-being, respecting the child’s natural rhythm.
